Authority Makes New Regional Planning Guidelines
The South-East Regional Authority, at their meeting held on 26th July 2010, made new Regional Planning Guidelines (RPG) for the South-East Region covering the period 2010-2022.
The making of the new RPG followed a review and update of the Guidelines made in 2004, which the new RPG now replace. The process involved a Strategic Flood Risk Assessment, a Strategic Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment under the requirements of the EU Habitats Directive. An extensive public consultation was undertaken by the Regional Authority in relation to the review.
The RPG are intended to provide a long term strategic planning framework for implementation of the National Spatial Strategy (NSS) and for the future sustainable development of the South-East Region.
The Planning and Development (Amendment) Act, 2010, an aim of which is to ensure a closer alignment between the NSS, RPG, development plans and local area plans, requires that local authority development plans and local area plans be consistent with the RPG.
