SERB-II Broadband Project

The SERA, in conjunction with the relevant County Councils, constructed networks in five further locations in the South-East Region as part of Phase II of the Government’s Regional Broadband Programme, as follows:

In all of these locations the networks were fibre-optic MANs similar to Phase I.

Following a public procurement process the Regional Authority accepted the tender of, and awarded the contract to, Laing O'Rourke Utilities Ireland Limited for construction of the five fibre-optic MANs.

The Concession Agreement to manage these MANs was awarded by the Government in 2009 to eNet.  Further Information can be got at www.enet.ie

Benefits of Broadband

Broadband has the capacity to deliver large quantities of information quickly. Access and availability of broadband will enable business to be conducted more efficiently and, therefore, will enhance the position of the South-East to compete both in terms of opening up new markets and attracting inward investment.

The 'SERB-II'  Broadband Project was being coordinated and managed by the South-East Regional Authority on behalf of its constituent City/County Councils.
The Project was Funded by the Irish Government and part-financed by the European Union under the National Development Plan 2000 – 2006.
