CATPIE Project
The CATPIE (Co-ordinated Advanced Teleworking Pilots in Europe) Project was an EU INTERREG IIC transnational project involving partners from four European regions, namely the South-East Region (IRL), North West England (UK), the Province of Utrecht (NL), and Rheinland-Pfalz (D).
The Project aimed to promote teleworking and to explore its potential to positively impact on the relief of traffic congestion, to ease the demand for office space and car parking and to create new employment opportunities. Under the project each partner implemented a specific pilot project in their respective regions. The pilot in the South-East involved the establishment of a Teleservices Centre to accommodate up to thirty teleworkers.
This was achieved through the establishment of a teleservice centre in the IT Centre in Tipperary Town, on a Public/Private Partnership basis. The continuing focus remains on the creation of sustainable employment particularly for those preceived as socially or economically disadvantaged.
