FINESTRA Project

'FINESTRA' was a inter-regional co-operation project with seven partner regions. It was co-financed by the EU under Article 10 of the European Regional Development Fund. The Project Concluded in March 2003, with the overall budget for the South-East Region being €514,463.

The overall objective of the project was to increase the involvement and contribution of SMEs in relation to regional socio-economic development and employment creation.

The project undertook studies and transferred experiend and know-how between partners under a number of themes: Services to SMEs; Alternative Tourism and Agri-tourism; Transport and Mobility; Urban Renewal and Innovative Financial Instruments for SME support.

Under the Services to SMEs theme the Regional Authority commissioned Waterford Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology, Carlow to undertake a study ot establish the business development needs of selected micro-enterpirses in the Region and to design a Business Development Model based on the research findings. The Business Development Model was launched by Minister Michael Ahearne, T.D., on 17th December 2002.

The Regional Authority, under the Transport and Mobility theme, commissioned Fitzpatrick Associates, Economic Consultants to assist with preparation of the Strategy. The Strategy focuses exclusively on the transport needs of passengers.
